The first thing I said to Helen and duncan when they told me about their wedding location was ‘I hope we have a great sunset on the day’ and lucky for us we did. I love a beautiful beach wedding and I’ve been fortunate enough as an Essex wedding photographer to shoot a beach wedding right here in the UK. Helen and Duncan’s gorgeous wedding in Southend-on-Sea was amazing. We started off in a local guesthouse called Suenos where Helen and her bridesmaids were in full wedding prep flow. There were plenty of jokes and giggles as the champagne flowed and a cool party atmosphere was created as the guesthouse rooms were all occupied by wedding guests. Helen looked phenomenal in her beautiful ivory dress with beaded detail and her gold Jimmy Choo shoes (I mean you can’t really go wrong with a pair of Jimmy’s!) We went across the road to the beach for some bridal portraits before I headed over to Duncan and the boys down the road.
Unlike most grooms before a wedding, Duncan was cool as a cucumber, he was even messing around with me during the groom portraits before heading off to the church. He was looking rather dapper in his 3 piece suit. He is such a great guy that he had two best men and so maybe that was the reason he was so chilled out. Either way he still couldn’t hide his excitement at finally getting the chance to marry his true love. Helen and Duncan had gone to school together, lost contact and reunited years later. As an Essex wedding photographer I love a good story behind how a couple met. I always ask the question during the engagement shoot…’so how did you two meet?’. It’s a great way to get to know the couple before their wedding day. I will eventually have enough stories to write a book about the library of stories that I’ve been told over the years.
The wedding ceremony took place at the Parish Church of St Saviour and the vicar was absolutely hilarious, he had a great sense of humour and had everyone in stitches during the wedding ceremony. I was really looking forward to getting some great shots on the beach before the wedding breakfast. I think that this is my favourit part of the day, when a couple gets their first few minutes together as husband and wife and I’m the only one there to document it. Especially when you catch the little glimpse of the look on their faces that say ‘we finally did it’
The wedding reception was in a great location right on the beach at a restaurant called Ocean Beach. It was just the right balance of relaxed but yet formal. It had great views and amazing service and staff. To sum everything up it was a fab wedding and I thoroughly enjoyed shooting it. Below are some of my favourite images from the day. If you are looking for an Essex wedding photographer then please feel free to get in contact. I look forward to hearing from you.
