My favourite part of every wedding I shoot is the party in the evening, and Simon and Lillian’s wedding did not disappoint. It was a fantastic affair with the ceremony held at Union Chapel in Islington, North London and the reception at The Decorium. The weather was amazing, bright blue skies without a cloud to be seen. The groom was a lively character and had me in stitches from the moment we met up for me to get some shots of him getting ready with his groomsmen. They were all very cool and chilled out, listening to music and enjoying Simon’s last few hours as a bachelor. Lillian looked amazing in her stunning lace dress by Pronovias, one of my favourite wedding dress designers and she had everything under control as she got ready along with her 6 bridesmaids and 3 flowergirls. Her father wore a traditional Ghanaian outfit made from colourful Kente cloth and he looked as proud as ever to be giving away his only daughter on her wedding day.
The Chapel where the ceremony was held had gorgeous high ceilings and was very atmospheric, it is the church that Lillian grew up in and I know that it was very important for her to get married there as it held a lot of fond memories. The great thing about Afro-Caribbean weddings are the food and the music. Simon and Lillian had traditional African drummers as part of the entertainment. There were also 2 traditional Ghanaian dancers that encouraged everyone to get up and take part. The bride and groom were the first to join in and I was delighted to watch them shake their stuff on the dance-floor. I can honestly say that this was one of the best weddings I have been to due to the fact that every single person was up dancing, the music and entertainment was fabulous, the dance-floor was never empty, the bride and groom’s family and friends made me feel so welcome and everyone just seemed to have a brilliant time. I would be happy to shoot it all over again tomorrow!
